Hi Sue,

Sorry you're having such a tough time with this project.  What is the type of primer that you're using? I'm thinking if it's oil based you might have a problem.   I understand having trouble with the color coverage......still seeing the dark rock color showing through if you didn't prime.....but I don't understand why you would have to do five coats over a white base coat.  To my knowledege Patio paints ARE acrylic paints.  That's just the particular product line from the DecoArt brand.   I always have the hardest trouble with coverage of yellow, red or orange. 
perhaps some of our members that paint more frequently on pavers with be able to offer more help.
