i was able to find out:
(CMC) Carboxy methyl cellulose is a very refined form of cellulose (usually from wood fiber) that is used to thicken or stabilize foods, ice cream, water-based paints, toothpaste, detergents, shampoos and many other things. It is non-toxic, so it tends to be very useful in the food industry. If you have used a soap-type handcleaner that is very slimy, it's probably got CMC in it.
the site had Pva in their glossy of terms section ...it says it's a type of glue.
The site originates from the UK so these might be more well known there I'm guessing. The wallpaper paste would be easy to find here.
It's such a cute design! I think it would be cool to make something that could actually be used outside..maybe a covered porch. I found this article where he conducted an experiment to see which method would last on his paper mache creations the longest outside and the boat varnish won! I think this is helpful information for sealing rock art too. I've heard about spar boat sealer from bernadette and now from Lisa. Boat varnish seems to even hold up on paper mache items. Cool.
