The Washington Street Art Center will host an evening of live music
on July 11th starting at 7pm, featuring Sisters and Brothers, Renata
Tutko, Wild Mary, and Beautiful Weekend. There is a suggested 5
dollar donation.
Sisters and Brothers is a dynamic collective of individuals from the
mountains of New Hampshire that perform composed and free improvised
music. A virtual orchestra of sound, the members perform on
saxophones, guitar, trombone, flute, bass, electronics, recorder,
percussion and more. Featuring members of Death to Tyrants.
Renata Tutko is an up and coming comedian and Boston native, she
currently hosts The Great and Secret Show and can also be seen
performing at The Comedy Studio and many other locales around Boston.
Wild May is an improvising quartet led by former Kayo Dot member
Forbes Graham. Wild May work and re-work discrete units of sound in a
variety of contexts from the post-Ayler to the post-Cage.
Beautiful Weekend is a voice/percussion guitar duet featuring Joel
from Big Bear. Beautiful Weekend create a beautiful, shimmering sound
referencing ambient, folk, minimalist, and neo-classical music.
The Washington Street Art Center houses a cooperative gallery, hosts
studio space for more than twenty visual artists, and presents
exhibitions, concerts, film series, workshops for adults and
children, and other art initiatives. The Center participates in
Somerville Open Studios each May and sponsors concerts featuring
local musicians.
The Washington Street Art Center is between Union Square and Beacon
Street: a five-minute walk from Union Square and a ten-minute walk
from Harvard Square (two blocks from Beacon Street). The Center is
near or on the following bus routes: 87, 83, 86, 91. Parking is
behind our building and is free and ample.
