Learn the vintage photographic printing method of cyanotype (sometimes called "sun printing"). Cyanotype, one of the oldest hand-applied photo-printing methods, can be easily used to create wonderful Prussian blue color images, by simply exposing a sensitized print to sunlight.
Participants will learn to mix and apply the cyanotype chemistry, and expose and process cyanotype images on paper and fabric.
For image-making, bring negatives or negative images on transparencies (which can include drawings on acetate), or bring a selection of flat objects (such as lace, cut-out shapes or flat found objects) to make photograms. Wear old clothes or bring an apron.
Paper for initial prints will be supplied, but you can also bring your own sheets of printmaking or watercolor paper (such as Arches watercolor or Fabriano Artistico) or natural fabric (such as white cotton or silk) to experiment with printing on different papers and fabric as time allows.
