Varnish or DecoArt's Clear Coat. For larger projects I use Flecto Diamond
Varathane. It's available in larger sizes so the cost is comparatively less if you
need a lot of varnish.

I don't know if you saw my earlier post. I had found this article on the paper mache website where this guy conducted an experiment to see which varnishing method would last on his paper mache creations the longest if his creations were placed outside and the boat/yacht varnish won! I think this is helpful information for sealing rock art too. Both bernadette & Lisa have mentioned using Spar marine (boat/yacht) sealer. Lisa (batscout) said she used the spar sealer on her all sided domed rock in 2B. Check out how glossy it looks! The wet-look. Which i think would be perfect for a koi pond.
Many Brands make Spar sealer......
Behr super spar can be found at home depot for $15
They even have it in a spay but I think brush on is best.
