Hello Everyone,
Come join us for two days of celebration and dialogue as more than 20 poets from China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong come to the Simmons International Chinese Poetry Festival at Simmons College in Boston on October 4-5, 2008-- just a few days away. We will be looking at poetry and translation as bridges to cultural communication.
In the words of Rainer Schulte, a translator and editor of American Literary Translators Association's Translation Review, "The globalized world forces us to find entrance into that which is foreign in the minds of people in other countries to avoid an escalation of the clashes of cultures."
The festival is sponsored by the administrative offices of Simmons College and receives logistical and planning support from the American Literary Translators Association (ALTA) where Jim Kates serves as president.
All events are free and open to the public. See the schedule that follows the introduction of the poet Chien Cheng-Chen of Taiwan, a guest of the festival. We extend our gratitude to Doug Holder for generously supporting our public relations efforts.
Cheers!
Afaa M. Weaver
