all to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new James McCarthy
Field located at the Michael E. Capuano Early Childhood Center on
Wednesday September 24th from 3:30 p.m. – 4:30pm
The ceremony will include a brief speaking agenda, ribbon cutting,
and a special New England Revolution guest appearance! The park will
be named in honor of Mr. James McCarthy, Mr. McCarthy served on the
Somerville Board of Aldermen from 1971 to 1975, and in 1978 he
continued to serve the City of Somerville as the Clerk of Committees.
He currently volunteers his time as an active member of the
Somerville Redevelopment Authority Board. The new park includes a
large turf area that is used by all in-town and travel soccer leagues
as well as the new home of Somerville's Top Soccer program, beginning
this fall. The park also includes, planted shade trees, pathway, and
a play area for children. The Mayor and the Somerville Youth Soccer
League look forward to seeing you all there.
